One Door Down : Profiles from a New York City Apartment Building During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Leeat's Early Perception Of COVID Transcript

Leeat: lived in Hong Kong during SARS. SARS is very similar to COVID, COVID is an extension of SARS. And so, at the time they were all wearing masks and they were all like “How does this get transmitted? Don’t touch things and then touch your eyes or your nose.” I didn’t do any of that crap, I was like “ehhh, I’ll be alright.” And I was! I don’t think it was as contagious. When it started, I have not been home in Israel for about six or seven years, and so I was like “fantastic! Come April, the holidays, I get time off from work, we’re gonna fly to Israel!” Uwvie and I already had flight tickets in April and I was dying to see my step-sister and we were so excited that we were all going to be together. And then, COVID-19 broke out, I was like “hey! It’s gonna be just like SARS, 3-4 weeks we’re done so I’m still going to make it home…” Never happened… (laughs) now it’s been what, nine years? And a child?
