One Door Down : Profiles from a New York City Apartment Building During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Leeat Asks Me About Moving to Astoria Transcript

Leeat: I met you when you just moved your stuff in, uh, why did you move here and, technically you moved here during a pandemic…

Tyler: Mhm.

Leeat: Tell me what sparked that decision.

Tyler: I moved here twice during a pandemic. I moved to Brooklyn in June 2020. In December 2019 I decided that I was going to take a gap year after I graduated. I thought it was going to be in New York. I moved home because I got sick that wasn’t COVID, and it kept me closer to, um, my doctors back home, but… It was all spent pretty much in Pennsylvania. So, after a year living there I decided that it was time to go back and I got into Columbia, which was a dream come true…

Leeat: Fancy! Congratulations!

Tyler: Thank you!

Leeat: So you moved in because you’re fancy and you got into Columbia…

Tyler:  Moving back here to Astoria was a very easy decision because having lived in the neighborhood for two years during college, I loved it, it was a nice little break from the city. My family lived here in the early 1900’s then moved away and so me moving back here felt kind of, you know…

Leeat: Yeah

Tyler: Something. I don’t know what word to give it, but… It felt right,

Leeat: Yeah.

Tyler: It felt right moving back here.
