One Door Down : Profiles from a New York City Apartment Building During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Paul Asks Me About School During the Pandemic Transcript

Paul: How was going back to school during the pandemic?

Tyler: The first time I heard about COVID I was in a class on soccer. This class I was so excited for because I love soccer. And so, I see on Yahoo that there’s this thing spreading, and I’m talking to my classmates, I’m like “Hey guys, look at this.” And it’s such a vivid memory because I feel like at that point there were immediately talks of school cancellations, and it just seemed everything was happening so fast. It stopped being safe, and (laughs) you know, going online it definitely wasn’t the same. I didn’t learn anything, really, for the rest of the semester, even in the soccer class which I was so excited for but (Sonia laughs) um, now that we’re back in person, and, Columbia just announced yesterday that they’re dropping the mask mandates, school during the pandemic was not… not as fun or as fulfilling, I think, as as it was before… Seeing friends on screens as opposed to in person sucked, not graduating sucked as well, at Yankee Stadium. But hey! Who can complain?

Paul: Yeah...
