Jo Recalls How Kathy Took Care of Ygritte While She Was Away Transcript

Jo: I’ve wanted to keep this as my home base. I never considered saying to Kathy and George “I’m not coming back.” I wanted to know that that security of my place was still here, and then early January I think I came back and, um yeah, been here ever since.

Tyler: You ever ask Kathy what it was like taking care of Ygritte?

Jo: Yes, we spoke a lot actually. Ygritte is very smart for a cat (laughing) she’s very uh strong willed and Kathy would be like “uhhh she’s doing this again,” or “I opened the closet today and there she was crawling all across our coats, and she meowed at me like “Yeah, what?”” (Shared laughing) and I’m like “Yeah… that’s what she’s like.” I think it brought her a focal point, she was suddenly at home a lot, and George was, I believe, still going to work, through most of it, which always, scared me. Like, even in early 2020 he didn’t stop working. From what she’s told me, Ygritte brought her some sort of company and something to focus on especially when Kathy’s sister downstairs wasn’t doing well and I think it was this little bright spark in her day to go back to Ygritte even though she is a pain in the butt let’s just face it (laughs.) But I think it did help her in a way. Even when she got sick, she was, Kathy was more than willing to yanno take her to the vet and see what was wrong with her and, do all that from, you know, I was just beside myself because I was stuck in Austin still. And she’s like “no don’t worry about rushing back, yanno we’ve got this and we’ll let you know.” So, I think, I think she felt that it gave her something to sort of hold onto during a difficult time. Even for me, even coming back in 2021 suddenly having been in a relationship and then back in New York and being single. Just having that presence of a little creature to look after, it’s a bit of a routine thing as well, like, she’s gotta yanno be fed at this time, and she’s gotta yanno, she likes to play at this time, and oh isn’t she funny and it-it’s just, I think takes your mind off things, when there’s, when you have a pet.
